Dr. Jennifer Duran grew up in Chicago and has never strayed too far from her childhood home. She received her B.S. in biology and teaching certificate in secondary education from Saint Xavier University. She then attended the University of Illinois for veterinary school (Ill-INI) and graduated in 2005 with her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine.
Her first job after vet school was working at Banfield, the Pet Hospital for over 4 years. She saw dogs and cats, but was the primary exotics vet there and for many of the Chicagoland Banfields. Dr. Duran loves her dog and cat friends, but has a special place in her heart for exotic pets--small fuzzies, ferrets, reptiles, birds, amphibian and even fish. She custom tracked exotics her 4th year in veterinary school and externed at Midwest Bird and Exotic Animal Hospital, Brookfield Zoo, John G Shedd Aquarium and Sea World in Orlando.
When not treating her patients and educating her clients, she enjoys spending time with her three year old son, newborn daughter, Great Dane, and bunny. They enjoy watching and playing hockey and gymnastics, walking “the boys” (son and Great Dane), swimming in their pool and enjoying all that Chicago has to offer.
Dr. Duran always had a “zoo” in her home since she was a little girl. She believes it was because of always being surrounded by animals that she knew she wanted to be a veterinarian when she grew up. But not just a veterinarian, a veterinarian who could teach her clients as well; hence, the teaching degree. Now she’s all grown up and living her dream!
